Supernova’s ‘Me and My Environment’ for the Young Scholar, is a series of three books for KG to Class 2. These books have been brought out especially for schools following the ICSE curriculum, post the syllabus revision in November 2016.

The teaching of EVS has always involved making the student aware of his/her environment systems, both physical and biotic and understanding the interactions between these systems and himself/herself. Post the syllabus revision, it is now considered more pedagogically prudent to begin with an integrated approach combining science and social studies in KG to Class 2 and then adopting a disciplinary approach from Classes III to V, separating the social environment component from the natural environment component as different core subjects with the environmental issues separately infused in both subjects.

Hence, in the three books in the ‘Me and My Environment’ series, the young scholar is encouraged to look around and learn more of his/her surroundings in a graded and child-friendly manner. Aided by lucid text and arresting colourful images, the content constantly strives to remind the learner of his/her role in the ‘scheme of things’ all around. The ‘I do, because I care’ section relates each and every chapter in the book with a can-do task for a participatory approach to learning. The temper that this series attempts to infuse in young minds is to use opportunities presented by exposure and awareness to interact and then think how he/she can contribute to its nurture and betterment.
