Publishers is one of the best English-language
publishers in the world. It is a subsidiary
of News Corporation and is headquartered
at New York. Harper Collins was founded
by brothers James Harper and John Harper
in 1817. In 1987, the famous News Corporation
acquired Harper Collins. Later in 1990,
News Corporation acquired the British publisher
William Collins& Sons, and since then
it has been known as an international publishing
house. William Collins & Sons was into
publishing of different versions of Bibles,
atlases, dictionaries, and reissued classics.
It had also owned the publishing rights
of many legendary authors such as H. G.
Wells, Agatha Christie, J. R. R. Tolkien,
and C. S. Lewis.
At present, Harper Collins has publishing
groups in the United States, Canada, the
United Kingdom, Australia/New Zealand,
and India. Apart from the publishing rights
of the William Collins& Sons, Harper
Collins now has the publishing rights
of many famous authors like Mark Twain,
the Brontë sisters, Thackeray, Dickens,
John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr.,
Maurice Sendak, Shel Silverstein, and
Margaret Wise Brown.
